Reviews & known issues

Embargo lifted 26 August 2026. The score is high. The technical asterisk is loud enough that permadeath players should read it before Expert.

Critical snapshot

Metacritic sat at 85 (generally favorable, 40+ reviews) through launch day. PC Gamer called it one of the best games of 2026. Windows Central treated it as a genre benchmark. Polygon praised the late-Republic tone and still logged mid-mission freezes. Shacknews was the notable pan on writing.

  • What lands

AP-and-Advantage combat, authored squad, Clone Wars texture that is closer to Andor than to a toy advert, $50 PC price.

  • What does not

UE5 hitching, inconsistent LOS, action camera clipping, crashes that rewind a permadeath file, some reviewers bouncing off the plot between fights.

Player-facing warning

If you enable permadeath, assume a crash can look like a death. Extract, return to the Den, then quit. Day-zero patch is installed by default on current store builds; it is not a promise of a clean 20-hour Ironman.
