Combat systems

Tactical maps are grid battles with cover, elevation, and cinematic action cams. The two resources that matter are Action Points (personal) and Advantage (shared).

Action Points

Each Operator receives 3 AP per turn. Walking, shooting, and most abilities share that pool — closer to Fallout or Divinity than Baldur’s Gate 3’s split movement.

Some kits refund AP on kills or mid-turn. Hawks can spend a slice of Advantage once per turn to restore 1 AP to any squadmate, which is how combo turns actually happen.

Advantage

The squad gains +1 Advantage whenever an attack deals damage. Ultimates and several smaller abilities spend from this bar instead of AP. Ranking an ultimate in the Focus Tree can lower its cost — Open Fire drops from 9 Advantage at rank I toward 7 at rank II.

Assault — Sweeping Salvo Cone damage and Disoriented
Gunslinger — Open Fire Two shots, any target mix
Heavy — Bulwark Area taunt and +2 Defense
Medic — Morale Boost Self and nearby allies to 4 Morale
Scoundrel — Easy Mark Mark a target; Scoundrel assists the next ally hit
Scout — Ambush Spends the whole bar (minimum 4) for scaled damage
Sharpshooter — Precision Shot Calculated shot that always hits
Soldier — Rocket Strike Impact blast on the tile

Cover, flanking, Overwatch

Cover objects reduce incoming fire; flanking exposed targets raises hit chance and damage. Line of sight is still the launch-week complaint — an angle that looks clean from the isometric camera can fail against geometry.

Overwatch is in the shipped game. Tel-Rea’s Force Push is explicitly useful for shoving an enemy into a friendly Overwatch cone. Scout Ambush is the high-Advantage opener when you already know where the Coil is standing.

Bonds and dual specs

Story pairs (Trick and Luco Bronc from Umbara, for example) can grow combat synergies by deploying together. Official examples include Medic Combat Stim feeding Gunslinger ranged damage, and Scoundrel Identify Weakness setting up a Sharpshooter crit.

Spec 2 is a campaign unlock. An Operator showing abilities from two classes is using the intended dual-spec system, not a UI error.

Launch week — Ability numbers will shift with patches. Costs above match pre-launch hubs and launch footage.
